Original Oil Paintings, Line Drawings and Miniature Paintings.
Joe Smigielski received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1994. He began his career teaching art to elementary school students whose joyful spirit and freedom, he acknowledges gratefully, continue to have an influence his work. Joe began supporting himself solely through sales of his artwork in 2000. Joe moved to Chicago in 2003. He’s been with the Andersonville Galleria since 2012. He and his wife, photographer Tracey Capone, who is also an Andersonville Galleria artist, make their home and studio in Chicago
Artist’s Statement: I love seeing the faces of the people as they wander through my created worlds and smile. I paint from a place of inner joy, which pours into the piece; this spirit is every bit as important as the subject matter. My paintings are moments and places which invite the viewer in, evoking a joyful emotion, memory or desire. Music moves my work. I reflect the rhythms, patterns and weaving of sound. Jazz is my primary ingredient, with it’s stretched, underlying mathematics and expressive meandering melodic lines.
